Checking Swiss IBANs
A Swiss IBAN contains 21 characters and begins with CH. The five-digit IID or bank clearing number is matched against SIX Bank Master data. This does not create or validate a Swiss QR bill.
What information can an IBAN checker provide?
An IBAN contains a country code, checksum and country-specific account details. The iban24 checker validates this structure and, for German, Austrian and Swiss IBANs, retrieves the encoded bank identifier and account number. When bank data is available, it also displays the bank name and BIC.
This helps when checking payment details from an invoice, separating an IBAN into fields required by accounting software, or finding the BIC for an international form.
How to check an IBAN
- Enter the IBAN with or without spaces.
- Select Check IBAN.
- Review the checksum result and retrieved bank information.
- Copy individual fields if required.
The checker removes formatting spaces, confirms that the length and character pattern match the country, and validates the Modulo 97 checksum. It then looks up the bank code in the available regional dataset.
What a valid result means
A valid result means that the IBAN is structurally plausible and its checksum is correct. It does not confirm that the account is active, that funds can be received, or that the named payment recipient owns the account. Account-holder information is not encoded in an IBAN.
For new recipients or unusually large payments, confirm bank details through a separate trusted channel. A checksum protects against many typing errors, but it does not protect against fraud involving a different valid IBAN.
Supported countries and data sources
Reliable bank matching is currently available for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The page shows the applicable source and the most recent successful update date when known. Bank names and BICs come from those datasets and may lag behind very recent institutional changes.

Submitted IBANs are processed for the immediate lookup and are not stored permanently. Use the checker only for bank information you are authorised to process.
