Check, understand and calculate IBANs
iban24 provides straightforward tools for checking an existing IBAN, calculating an IBAN from domestic account details, and creating EPC QR codes for euro transfers. They help identify typing mistakes, explain the information encoded in an IBAN and prepare payment details without registration.
Which tools are available?
The IBAN checker validates the length, structure and checksum of a German, Austrian or Swiss IBAN. It extracts the bank identifier and account number and, when data is available, displays the bank name and BIC.
The IBAN calculator creates an IBAN from an account number and Bank code. Country-specific rules are applied automatically, and the identified bank can be reviewed before copying the result.
The SEPA QR code generator packages beneficiary, IBAN, amount and remittance details into an EPC-compliant QR code that compatible banking apps can scan.
What is an IBAN?
IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number. It is a standardised account identifier used to make bank details consistent and machine-readable across participating countries.
A German IBAN starts with DE and includes the bank code and account number. The example DE89 3704 0044 0532 0130 00 illustrates the regional format.
The first two letters identify the country, followed by a two-digit checksum and the country-specific bank and account information. Length and internal structure vary between countries.
What does an IBAN check prove?
A valid checksum shows that the IBAN is structurally plausible and helps detect many common typing errors. Available bank data can also associate the encoded bank identifier with an institution.
It does not prove that an account is active, that a payment is safe or that the stated beneficiary owns the account. The account holder’s name is not contained in an IBAN. Confirm important or unfamiliar payment details through a separate trusted channel.
